Our Mission

Our mission is to give Caltech students true hands-on experience in robotics. In a school where a lot of value is placed in the theoritcal side of engineering, we want to bridge that rigorous, theory-first coursework with pratical, test-and-refine expierence. We want to create space, structure, and mentorship so you can apply what you learn in class to real robots.

Through projects that span mechanics, electronics, embedded systems, perception, planning, and controls we want our members to move ideas to demos and competitions so that they learn by doing every step of the way.

Our Story

Caltech Robotics Team began in 2011 competing in the NASA Rover Challenge. Starting in 2013, CRT entered the RoboSub Challenge and placed in the top three from 2015-2017, including first place in 2016. After the COVID-19 pandemic, the club was revitalized with a renewed focus on accessible, student-driven projects.

In 2025 and beyond, our goal is to raise the bar by making research-grade robotics more accessible to the undergraduate community at Caltech and, ultimately, to the broader global community through open resources, collaboration, and mentorship.

What We Value

Hands-on Experience

We believe the best way to learn robotics is by doing it.

Collaboration & Mentorship

What makes CRT special is its community. We share knowledge, support each other, and welcome members from every background and skill level.

Innovation with an Impact

We aim to push boundaries with creative, research-driven projects that capture the spirt of robotics.
